This time, Coyle on Cordiamo was one of eight from the starting field of 29 to go clean and advance to the jump-off over a course set by Bernardo Costa.
The time to beat was set by Filip de Wandel on Strongbeau, who finished clean in 38.725, but next to go was Coyle, who finished in 31.758, and that time would ultimately hold up to give him the win by nearly four seconds.
Gustavo Xavier Cortez on Action T was clean in 35.602 to place second, and de Wandel held on to place third.
Laura Chapot on Ginola was the fastest of those with four faultsinntehjumo-off, finishing in 32.713 for fourth, and JJ Torano onQuincy Quality was fifth withfour faults in 33.403.
“I KNOW he’s a fast horse,” said Coyle of Cordiamo, who Coyle has had since the gelding was 3 years old. “I was actually very tight back to the second jump. He’s not going to touch them. I did get lucky at the second to last. It was a little bit hairy there, but he was quite good again tonight.”
“I think there is a big future with him for sure," Coyle said. "He’s very careful; he’s very competitive. If I do a good job, I think he’ll jump five-star grand prix competitively.”
Coyle was the busiest rider in the class with five horses, and he also finished eighth on Arisos, ninth on For Gold and 10th on Ballyv Blake.
Coyle suffered a badly broken leg early in the season and had a number of plates put in, and this was his final show of the year as he will now have another operation to remove those plates.
This year marked Coyle’s second year competing at the PNHS, and he also was Leading 1.40m Open Jumper Rider.
“Tonight, the atmosphere was unbelievable,” said Coyle. “It felt like a real class. The course builder did a good job. The jumps weren’t too big, but there weren’t so many clear. It was just difficult enough.”
Cordiamo was the 1.40m Jumper Champion.
The Wissie Brede Memorial Challenge Trophy for the 1.40m Leading Lady Jumper Rider Award went to Laura Chapot.
