HUNT VALLEY, Md.--Keys Discount won the $25,000, 3 1/8 mile Brown Advisory Timber Stakes at Shawan Downs on Saturday Sept. 26, running his skein of victories in timber stakes to a record eight in a row.

"My mother had some money from an insurance payment for pain and suffering," said Fisher. "She said there hadn't been any pain and suffering, so she'd like to spend that money and thought she''d like to buy a horse with it. Keys Discount had won over timber at  a couple of point-to-points, so we bought him."

The rest is his incredible history.

Keys Discount had run four times on the flat in 2022 and then four times over hurdles in 2022 and 2023 when the Fishers acquired him and Jack switched him to timber.

Key's Discount was third in an allowance, won a maiden race over timber, and lost his rider in a stakes before beginning his run of eight straight stakes win at Middleburg in April, 2025.

"Next, he'll do the same as he did last year," said Fisher. "He'll go to Middleburg and the Gold Cup."

 

FISHER, along with the stakes win, also saddled the featured allowance hurdle race at Shawan Downs as well as the second in the ratings handicap hurdle and ran his lead in Trainer, Money Won to over $1 million, twice that of  second placed Keri Brion with $509,650, and he also leads in Trainer, Races Won with 18 wins to Morris' 11 wins.

"We like being over $1 million," said Fisher.

Fisher saddled Bruton Street-US'  Time Song, ridden by Dan Nevins, to win the $35,000, 2 mile Allowance Hurdle by 4 1/2 lengths over Awesome Man, trained by Todd Wyatt, and Investment Mandate, trained by Young.

"I ran him in that race because I didn't have any other race for him," said Fisher. "He'll go to Callaway Gardens next."

Time Song had run on the flat, with his best finish a second in a G3 Stakes at Santa Anita before being bought by Bruton Street and switching to hurdles earlier this year.

"Jonathan Thomas, a former steeplechase jockey who is now a trainer in California, called Jack and said he though that he'd do well over fences," said Charlie Fenwick who, with Mike Hankin and Charlie Noell co-owns Bruton Street. "He's won two hurdle races for us now, He turned out to be good. We had two winners and a second, so it was a good day."

Bruton Street's Track and Trace (Ire), trained by Mark Beecher and ridden by Niall Prendergast, won the $15,000 Amateur or Apprentice Rider Timber by 4 3/4 lengths over Recoup (GB), trained by Kathy Neilson, and Court Dunn (Ire), trained by Young.

"Track and Trace ran well," said Fenwick of the 9-year-old gelding who has three wins as well as two seconds and a third in stakes since being imported from England. "We also had a 4-year-old by Hard Spun run in the Maiden Hurdle. He's trained by Kathy Neilson, and he was third, beaten just a length, in his first run over fences. So it was a good day."

"It was a wonderful  day for Shawan Downs," said Fenwick. "During the races, it wasn't raining hard. It was a good day for us. We had 62 runners in seven races, so all the races filled well. Then the next day we had over 60 horses school over fences there. It's nice to see the place being used like that." 

Neilson saddled Commonwealth Racing's Evade (Fr), ridden by Jack Power. to win the $30,000,2 mile Maiden Hurdle, division 1, by 6 3/4 lengths over Lost in the Dream (GB), trained by Beecher, and I Found My Jet (Ire), trained by Todd McKenna.

McKenna then saddled Max Attack (Ire), ridden by Freddie Procter, to win division 2 of the Maiden by a nose over Iconic Walk (Ire), trained by Young, and Hard Spun To Run, trained by Neilson.

Tom Garner saddled Molly and Paul Willis and Devon Smith's Doctor Love, ridden by Stephen Mulqueen, to win the $25,000 Ratings Handicap Hurdle by 1/2 length over Tuddenham Green (GB), trained by Fisher, and Starforce, trained by Ricky Hendriks.

McKenna also saddled Keystone Thoroughbreds Noah and the Ark (Ire) to win the $15,000 Maiden Timber by 4 3/4 lengths over Moonshine time (Ire), trained by Brion, and Awesome Strike (On), trained by Beecher.
