Jack Doyle rode Flame Bearer to a Grade 2 Steeplechase win in Ireland

COUNTY KILDARE, Ireland--Jack Doyle, National Steeplechase Association's co-champion jockey in 2019, rode Flame Bearer to win a $41,500, Grade 2, 1 15/16 mile Novice Hurdle race at Naas racetrack on Sunday, Feb. 27.

CONTEST ACTION PA 4Jack Doyle, with an amazing show of horsemanship, somehow keeps Just Wait and See from falling despite leaving a leg over a fence and also manages to stay on the horse, and then goes on to win the Arthur O. Choate Jr. Memorial allowance timber race at the Pennsylvania Hunt cup in 2020 (Photo by Ellie Glaccum).Linda Mulcany and Mary Woldridge's Flame Bearer, trained by Doyle's father, Pat Doyle, raced close to the lead in the third race on the card and went into the lead over the last fence to extend his lead and win by about 3 lengths.

Two races later,Charlie Noell's Merriebelle Irish Farm Ltd.'s Micro Manage was narrowly beaten in a $13,500, 1 15/16mile Maiden Hurdle race.

Trained by Willie Mullen and ridden by Paul Townend, Micro Manage ran in fourth, about 5 lengths back, for much of the race, was a closing third over the fourth to last fence, moved up to second two fences out and battled to the line with Highland Charge, trained by Noel Meade, who finally edged ahead to win by about 1/2 length.

Jockey Richie Condon didn't have much luck, riding History of Fashion, who fell at Newcastle on Saturday,

Then on Sunday Condon had two mounts at Naas, Black Sirius in the fourth race, a handicap hurdle, who vied for the lead early but then fell way back to finish distanced, and Stormy Judge in the seventh race, also a handicap hurdle, who raced towards the back of the pack throughout and also finished distanced.
