MIDDLEBURG, Va.--Broken Vow (Ire), trained by Leslie Young, won the Maiden Hurdle and Jamestown, trained by Ricky Hendriks, won the Restricted Maiden Hurdle at the Middleburg Hunt Point-to-Point on Sunday, April 26.
Leslie Young saddled Silverton Hill's Broken Vow (Ire), ridden by Luke Carberry, to win the 2 1/8 mile Maiden Hurdle by 2 lengths over Sir Lenny, trained by Cole, and Bandoola, trained by Hendriks.
"Kevin Prendergast bred Broken Vow, and she ran once at Lingfield on the flat and won," said Young. "I bought her in a digital sale. We've had her since February. This was her first race for us. She ran great."
"She's easy to train," said Young. "For a little rd-headed filly, she's a good girl. She's nominated for Iroquois, but maybe she'll go to Fair Hill instead."
Broken Vow landed in front of long time leader Sir Lenny over the last fence and went on to win at Midleburg.
Uco Valley is okay, but he's not good enough to go to the Gold Cup," said Young of the gelding that was leading in the Grand National when Justin Batoff on Storm Team steered right into Uco Valley in an attempt to avoid cutting a flag.
Both Uco Valley and Storm Team, as well as their jockeys, are lucky not to have been badly hurt if not killed.
Batoff has since resigned his jockey's license and will ride races no more.
Jamestown, trained by Hendriks, owned by Leamington Racing and ridden by Jake Coen, won the Restricted Maiden by 7 lengths over T Rex, trained by Lawrence Smith, and Ladsfirstlove, trained by Jason Cole.
"WE'VE HAD Jamestown about six months," said Hendriks. "We've run him before, but this was the first time he put it all together."
Ricky HendriksJamestown was bred by Erdenheim Farm Thoroughbred, the entity that races as Leamington.
Jamestown ran on the flat for Erdenheim," said Hendriks. "It's always more fun to win for an owner that bred the horse."
Jamestown ran for four years on the flat with one win, and then was sent to Hendriks, who converted him to race over hurdles.
He started once before over feces at Camden but tired and was pulled up.
At Middleburg, Jamestown went to the front at the start and never relinquished the lead.
"I'm not sure where he'll go next," said Hendriks.
Smith saddled Celtic Venture Stable and Hickory Made Stables' Made to be Lucky to win the 3 mile Open Timber by 1 1/2 lengths over Our Legend (Ire), trained by Emily Hannum.
Hannum saddled Adlestrop Hill's Idoneo, ridden by Gerard Galligan, to win the Maiden Timber as the only finisher.
Young saddled Leipers Fork's Grey Pharoh (Ire), ridden by Carberry, to win the Novice Rider Flat by 7 lengths over Avalanche is Comin, trained by Jean Rote, and Blue Mandate, trained by Beth Newman deStanley.
Cole saddled his Solomon's Choice, ridden by Sarah Cundith, to win the Maiden Flat by a nose over Carl's Badge, trained by Laird George.
Barry Foley saddled Molly and Paul Willia and Adam Newman's Righthere Rightnow to win the Open Flat by 1/2 length over Boubonator, also trained by Foley, and Vae Patron (Fr), trained by Young.
