MORGANTOWN, W Va.--The equine studies program at West Virginia University (WVU) is a purpose-driven minor with tracks in equine science, equine management, and equine assisted activities & therapies.
The equine studies minor is paired with a major course of study at WVU that aligns closely with your overarching career goals.
Students often pursue degrees in Animal & Nutritional Sciences, Agribusiness and Applied Economics, Agriculture and Extension Education, Communication Studies, Marketing, Pre-Clinical degrees as examples.
Alumni of our program have fulfilling careers in veterinary medicine, farm management, animal health, equine assisted therapies, social media marketing and others, and are making big impacts in the equine industry locally, nationally, and abroad.
Opportunities for students to be engaged outside of the classroom at WVU are endless.
Students can pursue competitive riding opportunities on our western and english Intercollegiate Horse Show Association teams and career development opportunities in the American Collegiate Horsemen’s Association.
We offer working student positions at the JW Ruby Research Farm for students interested in improving the hands-on horsemanship and professional skills sought by employers.
We also have on campus internship opportunities in equine events management and social media marketing, and many connections for internships across the country and around the globe.
There is a fully furnished apartment at the Hazel Ruby McQuain Equine Education & Resource Center for students to live full time or part-time during on farm internships, foal watch, and other educational events.
Students interested in our program can tour campus, visit the JW Ruby Research Farm, talk to a faculty member, and interact with current students.
