LOXAHATCHEE GROVES, Fla.--Ireland's Dan Geaney on Consul won the $15,000 1.40m Grand Prix on Feb. 17 during week 6 at The Ridge at Wellington Groves
The first round in the Grand Prix over the course designed by Rodolfo Godoy featured a number of large oxers, two double combinations, a wall, and a skinny fence.
The jump-off left lots of options for long gallops, including a short side of the ring rollback to The Ridge's oxer - vertical double combination, followed by a bending line to the stone wall.
Riders were forced to choose between speed and accuracy, with Geaney delivering the fastest clear.
Geaney on Consul went late the in the class on Friday, finishing clean in 32.875.
Ashlee Bond on Garfield, clean in 33.609, was second and Daniel Coyle on Jasper, clean in 34.601, was third.
February 25 & 26 will be The Ridge's second in the season weekend show and it will be hosting rated and unrated competition in the hunters, jumpers, and equitation.
THE RIDGE has something for everyone at its newly renovated facility off E Road and Okeechobee Blvd in Loxahatchee!
During the January weekend hunter/jumper/equitation event, Sarah Long took advantage of the relaxed atmosphere to get back in the ring with Delivered by Hand.
"I love that The Ridge offers classes for everyone, at all levels, and provides a laid-back atmosphere for both horse and rider," said Long. "As a DIY amateur, those were both huge factors in my decision to step back into the ring with my special horse. The Low Derby was our first time back in the show ring in almost two years, with the horse who taught me how to jump. It also happened to be the first Hunter Derby I have ever competed in! He is older, but I knew he still loved to show off his skills, despite being my at-home confidence boosting ride and trail partner for almost 2 years now!”
