BERRYVILLE, Va.--Jack Fisher saddled two maiden winners in sanctioned races, one in a timber race and one in a hurdle race, at the Blue Ridge Point-to-Point on Saturday, April 12.
Jack FisherBlue Ridge had four sanctioned races as well as two timber races and three flat races.
Penicilllin Success, owned by Riverdee Stable, trained by Fisher and ridden by Steven Mulqueen, won the $15,000, 3 mile Maiden Timber by 3 1/2 lengths in 6.57 over Presence of Mind (Ire), also trained by Fisher, and Kelmscott, trained by Leslie Young.
"Penicillin Success is a failed hurdle horse," said Fisher. "That was his first race over timber. He'll run next at Nashville."
Penicillin Success ran on the flat with one allowance win in 2021 and then over hurdles.
Roja Redemption, owned by Riverdee Stale, trained by Fisher and ridden by Graham Watters, won the $20,000 two mile Maiden Starter hurdle race by 9 3/4 lengths in 4:03 1/5 over Forever Hopeful, trained by Lillith Boucher, and Slibh Aughty (Fr), trained by Neil Morris.
"The race conditions fit him perfectly," said Fisher. "That was his first race over fences. He'll probably go to Willowdale with Teddy Davies riding."
TODD WYATT saddled Buttonwood Farms' Sa'ad (Fr), ridden by Evan Dwan, to win the $30,000 Maiden Hurdle by 4 1/2 lengths in 4:01 3/5 over Off Pieste Rules (Ire), trained by Young, and Middleburg, trained by Keri Brion.
Young saddled Michael A.Smith's Foxy Walk (Ire), ridden by Luke Carberry, to win the $15,000 Apprentice Rider Hurdle by 2 1//2 lengths in 3:56 1/5 over Decisive Triumph, trained by Mark Beecher, and Coo Jet (Ire), trained by Fisher.
David Bourke saddled Sawbuck Racing's Bellamine Hall, ridden by Galligan, to win the Novice Timber in 7:07.
That race and the Lady Rider Timber were combined, and all the other horses in the combined races were off course.
Young saddled Sharon E. Sheppard's Chosen Judge (Ire), ridden by Carberry, to win the 1 1/2 mile Novice Rider Flat over Artistic Choice (Ire), also trained by Young, and Evie'sPrince, trained by Morris.
Young also saddled Welbourned Thoroughbreds' Le Bilboquet, ridden by Jamie Bargery, to win the 1 /18 mile Maiden Flat over Our Finest Hour (Fr), trained by Bourke, and St. Finian's Well, trained by Young.
Lawrence M. Smith saddled Hickory Made Stables and Celtic Venture Stable's Made to be Lucky, ridden by Sarah Cundith, to win the 1 mile Virginia Bred Flat over Louvar, trained by Barry Foley, and Mille McCall, trained by Bourke.
