BENSALEM, Pa.--Graham Motion saddled Bipartisanship GB) to win the $75,000, 1 1/16 mile PTHA President's Cup Stakes for fillies and mares 3 and up on the turf at Parx Racing on June 18.
Owned by As One Racing, CMNWLTH and Edgar Harty, Bipartisanship ran near the back of the seven horse field until swinging wide on the final turn and surging forward to pull away to win by 2 1/4 lengths.
This was her third black type stakes win and fourth win from 17 starts, with five thirds and $238,158 in earnings
Bipartisanship, a 5-year-old chestnut mare, also finished third in the G3 Gallorette Stakes at Pimlico in May, and she was third in a Group 3 Stakes at Fairyhouse in Ireland as a 3-year-old.
Motion also saddled Al Shaqab Racing's homebred Essaouira to win a $38,500, 1 mile and 70 yards Allowance Optional Claiming race at Delaware Park on June 22.
Essaouira stalked the leaders on the backside, rallied outside on the turn,took over in upper stretch and pulled away to win by 4 3/4 lengths.
BERNIE HOUGHTON won two races, including one in which his horses finished both first and second.
Dianne L. Stern's homebred Foxy Junior won a $31,600, 1 mile Allowance race for Pa-bred fillies and mares 3 and up at Penn National on June 15.
Foxy Junior had to be checked hard on the turn when the pacemaker Great Baroness went lame and was pulled up, but Foxy Junior got back into stride, went four wide and closed well to beat Shutup and Hang On, also trained by Houghton and owned by Daniel Lunceford, by a neck.
Great Baroness was pulled up and vanned off.
Douglas Gibson's African Angel, bred by Bernie's mother Betsy, won an $18,000, 1 mile and 70 yards Starter Optional Claiming race on the turf for fillies and mares 3 and up on June 20, also at Penn National.
African Angel was rated three wide and made a bid on the turn, followed by a long drive with Feminista, trained by Keri Brion, to win by 1/2 lengths.
McLANE HENDRIKS saddled Ellendale Racing's homebred Vanilla Bean to win a $35,000, 1 mile Maiden Claiming Race on the turf for fillies and mares 3 and up at Parx on June 19.
Vanilla Bean was reserved early and pulled away in the stretch to win by 3 3/4 lengths.
McLane also saddled his mother Elizabeth Merryman's homebred Mission Man to win a $25,000, 1 1/16 mile Maiden Claiming race on the turf for 3 year olds and up after the winner Sports Editor was disqualified and placed third.
Mission Man was bumped early, then was bumped again in the stretch to finally win by 5 1/2 lengths after Sports Editor was disqualified.
