LAUREL, Md.--Laurel Park was open for training on Thursday, April 27, and will be open on Friday, with hopes to run on Saturday, Apr. 29 unless the rain scheduled for Friday changes this schedule.
Last Saturday's cancelled Apr. 22 card included two $100,000 races, the Native Dancer Stakes and the Primonetta Stakes, scheduled for the main track.
This Saturday, there will be 11 races with the same slate of five stakes.
Races were cancelled last week after two horses had to be euthanized and trainers claimed this was due to the track.
Laurel issued a statement that attested to the safety of the track, but that alone didn't satisfy all the horsemen.
There were a number of talks between the Maryland Thoroughbred Horsemen's Association and the Stronach Group last week.
The horsemen wanted Laurel's former track superintendent John Passero to assess the track.
Stronach Group agreed, and that has led to the resumption of training and the decision to conduct racing on Saturday.
