DEVON,Pa.--The Devon Horse Show and Country Fair opened on Thursday, May 25 with equitation classes and the first Junior Jumper class.
Carlee McCutcheon of Aubury,Texas, one of only two clean from the starting field of 30, won the speed first round class on MTM Unexpected, finishing in 62.101.
Tess Downey on Isabelle, clean in 63.311, placed second.
Three riders were clean but had time faults to place third through fifth.
Emma Blumenkrantz of Colts Neck, N..J., on Chris W had one fault in 74.307 to place third, Avery Griffin on Daring Queen had one fault in 74.953 to place fourth, and Alesandra Ryden on Ilias had three faults in 76.838 to place fifth.
"Unexpected has go a big personality," said McCutcheon. "I could ride him bareback or put him in the short stirrup with any kid. He's perfect."
"Devon is so fun, she said. "It's such a prestigious event, so just having the opportunity to qualify and show here means a lot to me."
BOTH SECTIONS of the WIHS Equitation Jumper had ties for first.
In section A, Noah Nelson and Quite Cassini and Amira Kettaneh on Enzo tied for first, with Cody Rego and Alexa Elle Lignelli placing second.
"Quite Cassini is a very experienced horse," said Nelson."I have a lot of fun working with him."
In section B, Kate Egan on Ypaja Kashmir and Paige Walkenbach on Mac One II tied for first, with Kaitlyn Kelly on The Original and Avery Glenn on Acer C placing second.
"The first line was definitely more forward, so I knew when I picked up my canter that I wanted to establish that pace," said Egan."I knew once I had that pace, the rest of the course would flow."
