Houghton has four winners, Motion and Sheppard also have winners

GRANTVILLE, Pa.--Bernie Houghton's Fairy Dust, owned by his W.M.T. Stable, won for the third time for Houghton on Dec. 4, winning a $19,100, 6 furlong Claiming race on an evening when the pouring rain throughout the day had left the track a sloppy mess.

Houghton's homebred won by 3/4 length after racing four wide around the turn and then running down the leaders to prevail.

"She ran good," said Houghton. "Having her claimed is just part of the game. But because we bred her we'll still get the Breeder's Awards."

Houghton still owns five race horses, all homebreds, and four or five broodmares.

Houghton's other three winners were all bred by his mother, Elizabeth (Betsy) R. Houghton with one still owned by her.

Lee J. Glassburg's 4-year-old filly Cabbage Patch won an $11,800, 6 furlong Claiming race on Dec. 2, going to the front right from the break and improving to win by 2 1/4 lengths.

"Mom bred her and then we sold her to Lee," said Houghton. She's won two in a row now."

HILLMAN RACING LLC's My Lilly Pad won a $35,000, 7 furlong Allowance race on Nov. 24 after getting to the rail and the front at the 1/2 mile maker and going on to win by 2 1/2 lengths.

"She's a nice filly," said Houghton of the 3-year-old filly who has now won four times in a row after finishing second in her first start.

"She's just coming back after an injury," said Houghton.

My Lilly Pad won an Allowance race on Dec. 20, 2019, and then, after being injured, didn't race again until No. 6, when she won a claiming race before her victory in the Allowance race on Nov. 24, and has now earned $72,216.

Somerset Bay, owned by Betsy Houghton's Sylmar Farm,, won an $11,800, 6 furlong Maiden Claiming race on Nov. 26, running second until the turn and then going to the lead to win by 1 1/4 lengths.

"We liked him a lot at first, but he didn't turn out as good as we thought he was going to," said Houghton. "Buthe ran well that night."

Somerset Bay didn't run as a 2-year-old, making his first start at Parx in a Maiden Special Weight on Sept. 9,  finishing seventh and then running out of the money in his next three starts before his win on Nov, 20.

JONATHAN SHEPPARD, as trainer, had Singing Bridge Stable''s Juluca win a $28,000 1 1/16 mile Allowance race at Penn National on Nov. 25.

Racing at the back of the field early, Juluca, who was bred by Sheppard, circled five wide on the turn and went to the front to win by 3 1/4 lengths.

Juluca has now won three times with three seconds from nine starts and earned $74,355.

GRAHAM MOTION saddled Carl F. and Yurie Pascarella's homebred A K's Song to win a $21,250, 1 mile Allowance race at Tampa Bay Downs on Nov. 28.

Running second to last early on, A K's Song split rival in upper stretch and went on to win by a neck.

A K's Song won a Maiden Special Weight at Presque Isle on Sept. 4, 2019 and then ran fourth in an Allowance race in October and didn't run again until winning the Allowance race at Tampa this November.
