LAUREL, Md.--Dendrobia, trained by Timothy Keefe, won a $64,000 Allowance Optional Claiming race for fillies and mare 3 years old and up on June 13.

Dendrobia winning at Laurel on June 13Owned by Mr. and Mrs. Charles McGinnes and Francis J. Clemens and ridden by Forest Boyce, Dendrobia came flying thorough the stretch to win by 1 length.

"This was a non-winners of two race other than maiden or claiming, so it was a good race, and she won $33,345 to raise her winnings to $157,181," said Cynthia McGinnes. "She's a homebred, and we also bred her mother."

"She spent the winter at Betsy Houghton's Sylmar Farm and came back better than ever," said McGinnes. "She had one race this year before this one, but she got blocked turning into the stretch in that one. There was a lot of speed in this race, and it opened up for her in the stretch."

"She's a big mare, she's almost 16.3h, and she has a huge stride," said McGinnes. "She closed so fast that you couldn't believe it. She was still seventh of 10 at the eighth pole. When she gets rolling she really flies."

 

"SHE'S GETTING better now as a 5-year-old," said McGinnes. "Forest gave her a great ride. She's been on her for all three of her wins. She also works her in the mornings, so she knows her well.'

"We have Dendrobia's mother and her sister, so we'll keep on running her," said McGinnes. "We'll try to get some black type on her. Plus, Charlie and I enjoy watching her run."

Dendrobia's dam, Boudicca, was also bred by Mr. and Mrs. McGinnes, and she has three foals.

"We sold her first foal, Misty On Pointe, to Sagamore," said McGinnes. "She won three races, and when Sagamore was disbursing its mares, we bought her back. She's in foal to World of Trouble, a very fast sprinter."

"Boudicca has a 3-year-old by Bodemeister that's running now, and she has  a foal by Sky Kingdom," said McGinnes. "We breed her every other year because she has trouble foaling."

 

GRAHAM MOTION saddled Larkin Armstrong and Jack Swain III's Cat's Pajamas to win a $66,000 Allowance race for fillies 3 years old and up on the turf at Belmont on June 14.

Cat's Pajamas angled four side into the stretch, dug in gamely and won by 1/2 length.

Cat's Pajamas has now won twice from four starts and earned $84,700.

Racing is finally beginning to open up, with Belmont and Laurel running currently, with Delaware Park opening with racing on June 17 and Penn National and Parx scheduled to start racing in two weeks, all without spectators.

Ascot opens tomorrow, June 16, and all its races will be carried live on NBC Sports.

Motion has Sharing running in the Coronation Cup on June 20.
