UNIONVILLE, Pa.--George Strawbridge, Jr. will be honored as the 2021 “Plantation Field International Equestrian Legends of Unionville Honoree”.
George Strawbridge The celebration will take place at the Plantation Field International Three-Day Event on Sunday, Sept. 19 during brunch.
Initiated in 2019 when Bruce Davidson, Sr. was the first honoree, the program recognizes the contributions of local individuals who have achieved outstanding equestrian accomplishments.
A five-time Eclipse Award winner, successful racehorse breeder and owner, Strawbridge is well known in the United States and Europe for his success with horses in flat racing, timber racing and steeple chasing.
He has long had these winning horses trained over the hills of Chester County, Pa., particularly when he had horses trained by Hall of Fame trainer Jonathan Sheppard.
Racing in the name of Augustin Stable, Strawbridge’s horses, including such as Forever Together and Informed Decision, have achieved great success.
BUT HIS success extends beyond just flat and steeplechase racing.
His son’s horse won the Maryland Hunt Cup and his own horse, Eagle Lion, won the Badminton Horse Trials, ridden by Bruce Davidson.
A former President of the National Steeplechase Association, Strawbridge is also a former amateur steeplechase and timber rider.
He has fox hunted all of his life and his commitment to conservation of open space and involvement with the Brandywine Conservancy is well documented.
He retains ownership of more than 900 acres of Pennsylvania farmland which are under conservation easement.
The 14th annual Plantation Field International will take place Sept. 16-19, 2021 in Unionville.
Featuring CCI4* competition, the event is a favorite of a number of Olympic level riders including Tokyo team members Phillip Dutton and Boyd Martin.
