USEF CEO Bill Moroney evades answering question about Plantation Field

UNIONVILLE, Pa.--By passing the buck to his Public Relations director, USEF CEO Bill Moroney evaded responding to questions about the loss of Plantation Field due to the blog Eventing Nations' refusal to use the word Plantation and U.S. Eventing Association's final determination to go along with this move.

moroney from USEFBill Moroney (Photo from USEF)On Sept. 29, as Editor of The Horse of Delaware Valley, I started what became, as follows, numerous attempts to have Moroney respond to a few questions.

The only response received follows these attempts to reach Moroney.

This list of question was send to you last Tuesday. Also I called and left extensive messages for you with one of your assistants on both last Friday, Sept. 25 and last Tuesday.
If I do not hear from you or from one of your assistants that these questions will be answered by Monday mid=day, I will post these questions on line with the fact that no one from USEF has ever responded to me

Subject: PLANTATION FIELD
The loss of Plantation Field is a huge controversy in the Eventing and Chester County, Pennsylvania worlds.
Were you aware that both Eventing World and USEA put it in writing that they would not use the word Plantation in reporting on events there and would refer to it a P. Field according to letters I have from around Sept. 13.
Did you know of EN's and USEA's refusal to use Plantation, when did you know it and did you agree or condone that action.
Did you know that neither USEA or EN ever sat down with Denis Glaccum or Cuyler Walker to work this out but just simply announced they would not use Plantation Field but would refer to events there as P Field.
I feel the necessity of reaching out to you about this because The Horse has received so many letters defending Cuyler Walker and Plantation Field and bemoaning the loss of this great eventing site.

My readers have told me that Jenni Autry worked for Leslie Wylie, editor of Eventing Nation. Were you aware of that when you hired her, and did you take that into consideration when EN reached out to her concerning Plantation Field. If she worked for Wylie and had anything to do with the use of the word Plantation, I believe that would be a conflict of interest.
If you believe that refusing to use the word Plantation is wrong as, in this case, it has nothing to do with slavery, are you going to do anything about it.
If you believe using the word Plantation is wrong, are you going to refuse to use the word Plantation in referring to events at Live Oak Plantation.
What are you going to do about the many events of all disciplines held in the South on property that was worked by slaves.

While I would like to talk to you on the phone, I would also like an answer to these questions in writing so that there can be no mistakes.

HI SARA,

Your media request regarding Plantation Field was forwarded to me from our Executive office. I have included a response from USEF below, which can be attributed to our Chief Executive Officer, Bill Moroney. We will not be making any further comment at this time.

“We are reviewing the situation with the goal of reaching a solution that will serve the best interests of the sport.”

Moving forward, please send any media inquiries or requests directly to me to ensure your request is reviewed in a timely manner.

Thank you,

-Carly
