DEVON, Pa.--The historic Devon Horse Show and Country Fair has been named the recipient of this year's Horse Show of the Year award (for the 2018 show season) by the National Show Hunter Hall of Fame (NSHHF).
Winners in various categories are chosen annually by the members of the NSHHF.
The events or individuals with the most number of nominations are placed on ballots, which are then sent to supporters of the NSHHF to vote on their favorites.
The NSHHF was established in 1995 and is dedicated to "honoring excellence by providing recognition, education and appreciation for the achievements of the horsemen and horses who have made the sport of show hunters so rich in history."
In 1896, the Devon Horse Show and Country Fair started as a one-day show.
Now, years later, it has become the oldest and largest outdoor multi-breed competition in the United States.
While it draws top competitors from around the world, the show continues to reflect the local traditions and lifestyles of the Philadelphia Main Line.
THE DEVON Horse Show and Country Fair is the longest running and largest outdoor multi-breed competition in the United States.
With the grandeur of Philadelphia's prestigious Main Line setting the stage, the event features a world-class field that annually ranks among the most prominent internationally.
The event also includes the country fair, which benefits Bryn Mawr Hospital and has donated over $18 million to date.
The country fair offers world-class shopping, rides, games, multiple dining options and special entertainment events.
The Devon Horse Show and Country Fair runs this year May 23-June 2.
