Fall Hunter Show Fun at the Amwell Valley Hounds Derby

Amwell Valley Hounds’ prize-filled Hunter Derby Horse Show is Oct.12 at Bucks County Horse Park.

Amwellv1It’s promising to be a day filled with competition, camaraderie, and fun for equestrians of all ages and skill levels.

Thanks to generous sponsorship, by Mid-Atlantic Equine Medical Center, Avila Fine Arts and North Penn Animal Hospital, the event will feature derby classes at 2’, 2’6 and 3’, with $2500 in cash prizes that are sure to attract your competitive spirit.

The derby classes, held on BCHP’s grass polo field, will have warm-up class opportunities before each Derby, over the same course.

Also on the grass will be Hunt Teams, Fox Hunters, Ladies and Gentleman’s classes.

Meanwhile, the sand ring will feature fun pleasure, hunter and leadline classes, designed to cater to all levels, from beginners to seasoned competitors.

amwellv 2Whether you’re a young rider just starting out or an experienced equestrian looking to hone your skills, there’s something for everyone at this show.

Meet some fox hounds, enjoy a tailgate, shop the vendors for an autumn day of fun outdoors.

The Bucks County Horse Park is renowned for its welcoming atmosphere and community spirit.

Families are encouraged to come out and experience the thrill of the competition, enjoy the scenic surroundings, and support their favorite riders.

With a blend of fun, laid-back competition and, fun-filled activities, the Hunter Derby Horse Show at BCHP promises to be a memorable event.


The show is rain or shine, and grass field classes will be held in a ring, if warranted.

Top Equestrian Sport Returns to Harrisburg for Pennsylvania National Horse Show

HARRISBURG, P.--The nations’ top horses and riders will soon be descending on Harrisburg, Pa., as the Pennsylvania National Horse Show returns to the Pa., Farm Show Complex for its 78th year, Oct. 10-20.

As one of the oldest and most prestigious equestrian competitions in America, the PNHS features over 500 horses, all competing for more than $650,000 in prize money and esteemed championship titles.

Spectator admission for the horse show is free for the majority of the 11 days of competition, with tickets required for the show’s finale featured events, Team Night at the $30,000 Commonwealth Classic on Friday, Oct. 18, and the $100,000 Grand Prix de Penn National on Saturday, Oct. 19.

A few of this year’s highlights include:

Celebration of the Horse – Saturday, Oct. 12

From 1-4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 2, all are invited to attend this free family fun day!

The Celebration of the Horse will feature arts and crafts, horse-drawn wagon rides, behind-the-scenes tours, face painting, educational displays, pony meet-and-greets, activities with Reins of Rhythm and more.

Hunt Night – Monday, Oct.14.

Pa nat 2The tradition and style of the hunt field are showcased in the ring on Monday night at the PNHS.

Each year more than a dozen hunts from throughout the tri-state area compete for top honors in Field Hunter, Hunter Under Saddle and Hunt Team classes, as well as vying for the overall hunt team championship.

In addition to the competition, Hunt Night also features the crowd-favorite Parade of Hounds.

Admission and parking are free.

Foundation Friday – Friday, Oct. 18.

At the heart and soul of the Pennsylvania National Horse Show is the PNHS Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to “Enriching Lives Through Equestrian Sport” by providing support for therapeutic riding and equine rescue programs through grants.

penn nat 3The PNHS serves as the primary source of funding for the Foundation, and Foundation Friday aims to shine a spotlight on all of the organization’s grant recipients.

Beginning in 2016, the horse show began hosting the PNHS Therapeutic Riding Championships, sponsored this year by LifeVac.

This year’s championships will take place on Friday afternoon, Oct. 18, as part of Foundation Friday.

Team Night at the $30,000 Commonwealth Classic – Friday, Oct. 18.

Whether it is a group of barn mates, a 4-H club, a soccer team, a Girl Scout troop – or truly a group of any kind – all are invited to vie for prizes and be a part of the $30,000 Commonwealth Classic at the PNHS.

Group rate tickets for the evening – which kicks off at 6 p.m. – are just $6 per person for groups of 10 or more.

$100,000 Grand Prix de Penn National – Saturday, Oct.19.

The grand finale of professional show jumping competition at the PNHS, the $100,000 Grand Prix de Penn National will be held on Saturday, Oct.19, with the evening’s festivities getting underway at 7 p.m.
