LOS ANGELES, Calif.--Jessica Springsteen, an Olympic silver medalist, won the $35,000 1.45m Special Two Phase CSI5*-W at the FEI Jumping World Cup North American League qualifier in Los Angeles at Split Rock.
Riding Naomi van het Keizershof, an 11-year-old mare with six prior FEI wins, Springsteen won over an elite field of 69 competitors representing 15 nations.
Going first in the large class of 69, Springsteen laid down a trip that caused many faults in those following her that tried to beat her time.
Springsteen won by more than a second, leaving the competition in her wake.
The Anderson Lima-designed course featured two phases, each with seven jumping efforts.
In this unique format, riders could continue through the second phase even if they incurred faults in the first, ensuring an exciting and fast-paced event.
Laura Kraut on Tres Bien Z, was second, and Conor Swail of Ireland on Vital Chance de la Roque was third. .
Springsteen’s commanding win marks a triumphant start to her West Coast campaign, with the Split Rock venue providing the perfect stage for her debut success in California.
