SKILLMAN, N.J.--Laura Chapot rode Calafornia to win both the $7.500 Welcome Stake and the $30,000 Grand Prix on Sunday May 16 at Princeton Show Jumping.
"Calafornia has been the Circuit Champion in the 1.40m jumpers at the Winter Equestrian Festival for the past two years," said Chapot. "He's won the Grand Prix here before, too. He's always been a good horse. He's very forward. He's brave but very careful."
"We're going to show him here again in two weeks, and I'll show Out of Ireland in the Grand Prix here in two weeks, too," said Chapot. "Then we'll show a bit at HITS at Saugerties and then go to Lake Placid."
Chapot was also seventh in the Welcome Stake on Thornhill Kate.
DEVIN RYAN of Long Valley, N.J., who won the Welcome Stake two weeks ago, was second this time on Irseline VD Hagenhorst, while Morgan Ward of Bedminster, N.J.,, who won the Grand Prix two weeks ago, was third in the Welcome Stake on High Touch.
Kaitlyn Williams was second in the Grand Prix on Cassio Melloni, while Ryan, who is on the short list for jumpers at the Olympics, was fifth on Itina. seventh on Hangover and ninth on Irseline VD Hagenhorst.
Showing her versatility, Ward this week won the $10,000 International Hunter Derby on Denmark.
Kim Bizby, who won the $2,500 National Hunter Derby on Dizzy GZ, was second on Permission in the International Hunter Derby.
Princeton Show Jumping is a 110 acre horse show facility that holds USEF rated events fro April through October.
