TRAVERSE CITY, Mich.--Traverse City Horse Shows is the new host of the 2020 Adequan/USEF Junior Hunter National Championships East Coast from Aug. 23 - 25, 2020.
In conjunction with US Equestrian, the decision was made to relocate the event from its previous home in Kentucky in order to avoid cancellation.
The United States Hunter Jumper Association Gladstone Cup Equitation Classic will coincide with the championships on these dates.
The extended three-day timeline of the championship will serve to reduce traffic, with Sunday and Monday featuring the hunter classes while Tuesday will showcase equitation in the USHJA Gladstone Cup Equitation Classic.
The Traverse City Horse Shows team will be making good use out of the two weeks they have between the end of the Great Lakes Equestrian Festival and the beginning of the Adequan/USEF Junior Hunter National Championships East Coast in order to prepare for participants and appropriately sanitize the venue prior to the start of competition.
THE CHAMPIONSHIP, which was canceled earlier this week, was revived after Traverse City Horse Shows competition management stepped forward and offered to host and organize the competition.
The United States Hunter Jumper Association Gladstone Cup Equitation Classic presented by Intermont Equestrian at Emory & Henry College will also be held in conjunction with the championship on these dates.
“We greatly appreciate the efforts of the Traverse City Horse Shows management to host our Junior Hunter National Championships East Coast on such short notice,” said Bill Moroney, Chief Executive Officer for US Equestrian. “It is important for our members and our sport to keep competitions viable during this pandemic and we’re looking forward to bringing this national championship back online for our junior members.”
Protocols included in the USEF COVID-19 Action Plan will be strictly enforced.
Traverse City Horse Shows has also developed their own COVID-19 Action Plan.
Entries will be due on Friday, Aug. 14, 2020.
Entries can be submitted through HorseShowsOnline.com.

The USHJA also announced the relocation of the 2020 USHJA Gladstone Cup Equitation Classic - East to the Great Lakes Equestrian Festival.
The event will now be held Tuesday, Aug. 25, alongside the Adequan/USEF Junior Hunter National Championship - East Coast.
This is the second location and date change for the East Coast iteration of the Classic, originally slated to be held at Brandywine Horse Shows and moved to the Kentucky Horse Park before finally settling at the Great Lakes Equestrian Festival, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The East Coast event remains open to any Junior rider that has won either a USEF Hunter Seat Medal, ASPCA Maclay, USEF Show Jumping Talent Search, either phase of a WIHS Equitation Classic at a National or Premier competition, or Overall WIHS Equitation Classic at a competition with a start date between June 1, 2019 and May 31, 2020.
