Brandywine Hills Point-to-Point offers new Leading Jockey award

WEST CHESTER, Pa.--The Brandywine Hills Point-to-Point on Sunday, April 7 has five horse entered in its races that are nominated to the Maryland Hunt Cup.

New this year, thanks to Ashwell Stables, the Brandywine Hills Point-to-Point will present $500 to the Leading Jockey of the day’s races.

Points will be awarded, 5, 3, 2 and 1 from first through fourth, in accordance to the Delaware Valley Point to Point conditions.

With the weather expected to be sunny and warm, Brandywine Hills is a great family outing that includes a parade of foxhounds, antique cars and a children’s activities area.

Refreshments are available on-site for purchase.

Raffle tickets are available for purchase at $10 to win prizes including a trip, artwork, restaurant certificates and Devon Horse Show box seats.

The featured race, the Henry C. Baldwin Open Timber, has seven entries, including four horses that are nominated to the Maryland Hunt Cup.

 

LAST YEAR'S Hunt Cup winner, Withoutmoreado, is entered but may not run, while Shootist, who ran in last year's Hunt Cup, is trained by Todd McKenna and will be ridden by Freddie Procter.

Joe Davies has two entered in the Open Timber that are prepping for their first run in the Hunt Cup, Mr. Fine Threads, to be ridden by Teddy Davies, and Great Road, to be ridden by Eric Poretz.

Also entered in the Open Timber are Overdrawn, trained by James Piper, Mystic Strike, who won the 2022 Pennsylvania Hunt Cup, trained by McKenna, and Andale, trained by Priscilla Godsoe.

Davies also has another horse prepping for his first run in the Hunt Cup, Our Friend (Ire), to be ridden by Teddy Davies in the Amateur Apprentice Rider Timber.

Brandywine Hills races begin at noon with three Junior Fieldmaster Chases for Medium and Large Ponies and Horses, followed by Small, Medium and Large Pony races, the Lead Line Pony race and a stick race..

The Lady Rider Timber, with four entries, is scheduled for 1:45, followed at half-hour intervals by the Amateur Apprentice Timber with four entries, the Novice Timber with five entries, and the Open Timber.

The Side Saddle Field Master's Chase, with four entries is the final race at 3:45.

Brandywine Hills is held at the Myrick Conservation Center on Route 842 East of Unionville, near Northbrook Marketplace.
