DEVON, Pa.--The Devon Fall Classic offers thrilling jumper competitions in the Dixon Oval both days and evenings from Sept. 14-17, but it offers so much more in family entertainment, shopping and fun.
The boutiques in the fair area offer shopping for a huge variety of items.
What a great spot to get some early Christmas shopping done for family and friends, both humans, dogs and horses.
In the boutiques, you can find a number of shops offering all kinds of jewelry, ranging from inexpensive to the very best, and much of it with an equestrian motif.
There are shops with women's apparel and accessories, handbags and totes.
If you're looking for prints or original paintings, there are boutiques at the Fall Classic where you can find not only that but also equine sculptures worked in teak.
If you're looking for something different, there's a boutique that offers antique maps.
For your animal friends, there's clothes for dogs as well as organic dog treats.
AND, OF COURSE, at a jumper show there are shops with riding clothes and tack, and even one where you can get your halter fitted with a nameplate engraved with your favorite horse's name.
Then, when all that shopping has left you with an appetite, there's also a huge variety of food from hamburgers and hot dogs to elaborate cuisine at the Garden Cafe.
The Wine Gazebo, located in the Picnic Grove, is open Thursday and Friday from 4 pm to close, and on Saturday and Sunday from 11 am until close.
The Picnic Grove also offers entertainment with DJ Brian Kiley playing from 5 pm until 8 pm on Thursday and Friday, and on Saturday from noon to 3 pm and again from 5 pm to 9 pm.
For the youngsters, the Picnic Grove has Kids Crafts on Saturday from noon to 3 pm.
Then on Sunday, St. John''s Brass Ensemble will entertain you beginning at noon.
There's fun for the whole family in the Fair area, with all kinds of games and rides.
Get on the Ferris wheel not only for a fun ride but to get a bird's eye view of the entire show grounds.
You can get adult refreshments at Clydesdale Corner, and while you're there relax with music evenings.
Thursday evening, Old Fangled will play from 6 pm until 9, Friday evening enjoy Rick's Office Band from 6:30 to 9:30, and on Saturday evening Just Add Water will play from 6:30 to the close of the show.
Jumper competitions begin at 8 am on Thursday, Friday and Sunday and at 7:30 am on Saturday, and classes continue throughout the day.
Thursday evening features the $5,000 Welcome Stake at 7:00 pm, and on Friday evening, the $5,000 Open Speed Stake begins a 7 pm.
The piece de resistance, the $25,000 Devon Fall Classic, highlights Saturday evening beginning at 7 pm.
The competition is presented by Land Rover Jaguar Main Line benefiting the Devon Horse Show and Country Fair Foundation, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that allows the historic venue the support it needs to continue improvements to the showground.
